BP gave up on FT

spydergirl Nov 12, 2003 07:30 AM

I have a approx. 28 inch ball python. ive had for about 4 months, and hes never given any problems eatinf FT mice until recently. I had a 75 watt moonlight bulb on him, but the weather got really cold,so i switched it to a 100 watt red bulb. The humidity is about 60-70%. 2 weeks after the bulbs switch is when he would no longer go for the dead mice. Panicing, i brought home 3 fuzzies and he gobbled them down. it was been 2 weeks since then, and id like to be firm and try to get him back on FT, but i do not want him going hungry. What else should i try?Maybe just stunning live mice before i give them to him? im really scared the mice will hurt him so i do not really want to go that route. any help is appreciated!

Not sure if this will help, but maybe the FT just aren't warm enough? I used to have problems w/ my little guy taking FT and turns out I wasn't getting them warm enough. Just thawing in warm water didn't work. I tried a heating pad and blow dryer w/ no luck. It wasn't until I started to lay the mouse (after thawing in warm water) on the light fixture for about 10 minutes did he started taking them. Just a thought.

how long do you put them there?
and don't they cool off pretty fast?
My Daughters snake has stopped eating (it is winter, so I M not quite worried yet)
but we still offer her FT each week (she turned down live as well as FT before I gave up on the Live ones)
She is not loosing weight, and her color is good, her skin looks good, and we have actually seen her drink once (about 10 days ago)

Forgot to add that I completely thaw in water and then place on light fixture for about 5-10 minutes. I zapped the mouse with my temp gun once after doing this and it got the temp up to about 104 degrees. I then put it in the tank, wiggle a bit and then when I drop it he strikes.
