Frilled problem

vferra7777 Nov 12, 2003 09:37 AM

Hello. Just got one from LLL and he is not doing well. Cage is set up, has a 2.3 reptisun, branches, water bowl. He just sits under the UV bulb. He eats but his coloration is dark and he just llooks "sick". I haven't dusted any meals yet, we have only had him 5 days. He has a mulch substrate, and the cage is 3' x 2' x 1'. He is about 14" long including tail. Any ideas? Please contact me at vferra7777@cs.com and thank you.

Here's a link to a care sheet to start with:

It's probably just stress from shipping and being in a new cage. If you or any pets are in plain view of him, that will cause more stress for him. I'd block off the sides of the cage to give him/her some privacy.

Also make sure he's well hydrated -- drip/spray him a couple of times a day. A warm bath can help with hydration. Read the care sheet and check your temps (should be about 95°- 105°F air temp on the hot side).

Also, I would take him to a vet. The frilleds from LLL are imports and have only had one treatment for parisites. It generally takes about three treatments. When you go take fecal sampale so your vet can find out what/if your dragons does still have parisites. If the test comes back clean, have another test done in about 3 weeks.
