eeew!!! I had wax woms turn to moths....

alieliza Nov 12, 2003 01:13 PM

I had some wax worms, but since you are suppossed to use them sparingly, while i had them, they died..... or so i had thought. So i threw out the sealed container they were in into my room garbage. A few days later, last night, i decided i could use the container, but there were moths flying around in it!!! yucky!!

yikes! did you refrigerate them before you threw them out? or leave them in room temp in the container? what color were they? hehe coz i think some of them are dead, but i'm afraid 2 toss them out coz i dont want them to turn into moths... but i dont know if i'm supposed to keep them in with the live ones (even though they are hibernating). i threw one out too, but i put the waxie i thought was dead into a plastic bag N then threw it in the garbage at a school gym near my house hehe~

I didnt ever refrigerate them. The "dead" ones were black in color. I just thought they were dead, not metamorphosing..... geez!

hehe oHHhHhH okay i heard they don't have a long shelf life, so i just keep them in the fridge the ones that i think are dead in my container are brown... i dont think they're morphing...

The morphing ones look like they're burnt. They've got a brown shell around them. I just set my moths free outside.

The moths that waxworms turn into are even better for your gecko than the waxworms themselves. Mine love the moths even though they can't catch them unless I put the moths in the freezer for about 2 minutes so they slow down.

Ya, feed them the moths, they'll love them. All my lizards love moths. It's a good variety.
