How many bags...

Tigergenesis Nov 12, 2003 01:17 PM

I'm trying to figure out about how many 5lb bags of Vita-Sand I would need to cover the bottom of a 75 gallon tank (48inx18in).

Also, how many inches deep do I want the sand to be?

Note: I'm aware of the debate on sand as a substrate.

a 5lb bag covers a 10g tank with about 1 inch of sand so you may need 7 bags minimum, thats like 60.00 in sand.....play sand is 2.50 at home depot per 50lbs so for 5 bucks you would easily cover you tank with 3inches of sand or so.

get 5 bags of the 5lbs or 3 bags of the 10lbs, also don't get that, its not good, get the zoo med repti sand its real desert sand real fine and no dust , or exo terra came out with there own now, its the same as the zoo med they are real desert sand no dyes or anything added real fine and no dust wayyyyyyyyyyyy better then playsand which is not all that fine and is dusty as hell, the finer the better , less of a possibilty of your uro getting impacted
