Albino Elaphe bimaculata?

ron Nov 12, 2003 01:58 PM

I've heard rumors of Albino bimaculata, has anyone seen one? How much do you think they would be worth?

Yes, there's an albino bimac in the US. I've only seen the pic. It's a female and she hasn't produced any offspring yet. They've tried for the last couple years. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that she will breed. There was a post earlier this spring that she was gravid, but I haven't read or heard since. I guess the one who has the albino will set the price. Bimacs produce small clutches generally and the first clutch would produc hets only unless the male was het for albino. With back breeding, etc. will be be awhile before we see any in collections I'm sure.

Hi! Terry.

Do you remember where you saw the picture or even who has the albino twin-spotted? I am very interested to see some pictures of it, I can't wait!

Here's a URL to an old post on this forum:

The albino went out on breeder loan this year I believe.

Hey guys, the albino bimac is now a project between Karl Krumke and myself. She is actually over at Karl's place since I'm focusing more on the taeniura morphs. Karl also has better experience with the species. We thought she was gravid this past season but may have reabsorbed her eggs. She is a LTC and has been around for probably 5 years now. We are keeping our fingers crossed again this year for just a couple eggs (anything would be nice at this point)! It can require a lot of patience working with these wild caught animals. Sometimes it just takes more time......

All the best, Glenn

Hey, Glenn. I know what you mean about working with long term wild caughts. My best example of that was with my "Seoul City" South Korean diones. It was five years before I got my first clutch from the adult snakes. I lost the female after only two clutches, but still have the male which is probably 12 yrs. old, or more now. It was enough to establish a really nice race in the hobby, and now we have some young snakes that will be breeding soon.

I hope the albino produces next season. It'll be great to see those genes added to the already established stock. Good luck to you both.

Terry
