I have chunks of fern bark in my cultures. I feed mine dry yeast and sprinkle the yeast onto and into the fern bark. This way the springtales collect in and around the bark. To feed I just swap the bark out every week, at least a few days after I last fed the culture, with the piece that is in each tank.

You might lose a few sprintails from jumping, but I've found the easiest way to feed springtails is to flood the culture with distilled water. Springtails are so light that they float to the top. Then all you do is pour the water into the tank, springtails and all. This keeps any metabolites from building up in your culture (which can cause a crash), and it helps keep away the rancid smell that I have noticed in some other methods of culturing.
As for feeding, I alternate between feeding mine oatmeal and fish food. I don't see as much mold as others in my cultures, probably because I use coconut husk chips as a media. They contain tannins which probably reduce the pH below the ideal for mold. I've found this method to be quite productive for me with little effort.
