Bad culture? black mold?

rc_racer_007 Nov 12, 2003 05:20 PM

Hey, my Hydei culture is weird. First little red blobs started to form on the sides of the culture. Then it got bigger and started to turb most of the top of the media red. Now there seems to be a black mold. The larva and stuff is still devoloping, whats up with my culture?

I have never had this happen with my wingless or flightless cultures. And i made this one the very same way.

The red stuff sounds like slime mold or a plasmodium, which is pretty harmless stuff. However, when you start seeing black mold, get rid of the culture! Not only does it have the potential to kill your culture, it could be Aspergillis niger, which is EXTREMELY allergenic for most people (deadly in some cases). Pitch the culture without opening it.

Just my observation.
