New borns not eatting crickets

leeherpsgirl Nov 12, 2003 06:03 PM

My eggs hatched about a week ago and the last one just hatched lastnight. I have 7 of them now. They don't seem like they are interested in eatting crickets. They start to flip out and try to get out. I notice that some are eatting greens and drinking water. They look healthy but I think they need to start eatting crickets. The size af the crickets are pinheads. Please tell me what is wrong thanks.

I start my babies out at 1/4 crix. If the babies are really small you might try 1/8. I think pins are too small.

What substrate do you use. I use bare bottom cat litter pans. they can get traction but they dont ingest anything other than crix and crix cant hide.

You might want to experiment with the quantity of crix you put in at one time. Especially important with babies is not to leave uneaten crix in with babies. they will stress at the least and get chewed on at the worst (could be fatal).

Good luck

Do you just feed your new borns in the litter pan or do you keep them in there all of the time? If they are always in there do you use a lid? If not, what is the size of the litter pan? I really like this idea and it would be great if I could put two or three babies in a litter pan and just keep them in there all of the time! Thanks, Jake.

I keep them in the pans for 4-8 weeks depending on the housing accomadations available inside. While they are in the pans, they go outside everyday for 4-5 hrs of sun after their daily bath. I use a sreened lid to keep preditors out. they are 18" X 15"

That is so genius! I was killing my self trying to find a way to afford to house the babies, but that is perfect! I was planning on paying $35 a piece for 20L tanks, but I could pick those up for less than $5 each. Thanks, you just helped me out a lot!

if I had it to do over, the big thing I would change is to use the jumbo pans
