For those who doubt...

Trust me, your snake can probably handle it if he wants it bad enough...=) Believe me, I don't make it normal feeding practice to feed prey items nearly this large, but it is what I had available at the time. The snake is a southern scrub, just measured accurately the other day (finally) at 5'9". Sounds big, but they're slender snakes, and a jumbo sized rat (a leftover breeder from a while back) is quite the meal for him. But, experience has taught me as long as the enviroment is right, there's little this guy (and most my other snakes) can't handle. That was 4 days ago, and there's still a sizeable lump but he's digesting it well and it's going down with no problems.

LOL thats an average size meal for Anubis. He's been getting large/jumbo rats every 2-3 weeks for quite a while now. They can definatly eat.

Our little kingsnake (2') took a weanling rat pup that was almost 3x his diameter... Not something we do often, but, like you, it is what we had available (and I was too de-caffeinated thaw the smaller one). Gave him a fight going down, but, down it went and we didn't see him for a week & a half...

Mental image of the fat dude from Monty Python.. "I'm stuffed...."
