Dennis-
The temp guns are awesome, and well worth the $50 or so for the gun. Mine is an Infrared Thermo-meter with an optional laser for precise readings. They work great for checking gradient temps in multiple cages and exact body temps. The digital scales are also a nice thing to have. The body temp of the chameleon should be very close to the temp of the room (air). Chameleons are cold blooded and rely on an external source for heat. (I.E. the sun/basking bulb). Hope this helps!
