brooksi's...?

banana Nov 12, 2003 09:23 PM

Hey, reading this forum I hear a lot about brooksi's, and i was just wondering... are they extremely nice and calm? Is that why they're so popular? How do they differ from Cali kings? Would you recommend them for newbie snake owners? Any info on them would be awesome, especially from someone who has owned them AND cali kings.

Great snakes for a novice keeper, and so are Cal kings. I like brooksi better because they are thicker and their patterns are unlike anything else out there. Just be careful regarding who get yours from. My normal is a nice sulfur yellow, but I have seen so many brown ones that I am starting to think that 75% of those who sell them do not know what a true Brooksi is supposed to look like. The guys who have posted below are good bets for quality ones.

brooks are always hungry and ufortunatly mine are acustomed to a mouse or rat being thrown in to the cage on opening. though they dont bite they will come barrelling out with mouth open sayin wheres dinner! these snakes handle well im tryin to think if ive been bit and cannot recall ANY big chews, there my favorite. Hands down, my favorite Kingsnake. Newly introduced to them as a reptile show a month ago. Purchased a 9yr old male lavender. All I can say is Wow!. He is the calmest and biggest snake I've ever had to priviledge to own. He cruises openly in his large 50gal tank. Takes an interest in everything going on in the room. Comes up to the top to greet me when I look in. Probably all this is just him hoping to be fed but it appears that he is crazy about me. Now I have a 6yr old female arriving this week and plan on raising more of the same. If he had been my first snake I might have stopped with him as he meets all my expectations. Good luck finding a nice Brooksi.
