i noticed that my turtle's scutes seem to be turning blackish and appear to be cracking. Is this a sign that his shell is growing? Or is it something to worry about?

This didn't start happening until i put in the UVB light earlier this week, so either the light is promoting his growth or damaging his shell. Anybody know which it is doing?
