I just use my Aquaclear Filter. I think the biggest one, rated for fish 100 gallons but good enough for turtles 55 gallon I would say (perhaps less). It gets the job done, it is easy to prime, and you can have different substrate in the filter. I like! Plus it's fairly cheap.. I got ripped at the store, but if you buy it online you can get it for 40 or so dollars. It's really sturdy compared to some of the other over-the-top filters I've used in the past.

If you want a good canister style filter that is not a huge pain in the butt to clean and service. Aquarium Pharmaceuticals puts out one called a FILSTAR. I have use Ehiems and fluvals, Magnums (I like the magnums too) and let me tell you this FILSTAR is the easiest one I have ever worked with and very efficient. It is moderately priced and LESS expensive than comparably sized Fluvals and Eheims.
