snake didn't eat

janome Nov 13, 2003 10:01 AM

I'm fairly new to keeping snakes. I have 2 corns and a milk. I haven't had any problems with them eating, except today. My honduran milk snake, tangerine dream, wouldn't eat this morning when I fed my others. He's about 4 months old. How long can they go with out eating before you should get all worried? I always take each of them out of their enclosure and put them in another container to feed. I feed them about every 7 days. My milk is usually eating 2 pinks but showed no interest in them at all this time. My male corn ate a fuzzie and his 2 pinks since I didn't want to waste them. My female corn eats 3-4 pinks now. Should I just wait till next week to try to feed him again? He does look like he starting to cloud up and turn white for shedding. But his eyes aren't yet. Thanks for any advice.

Don't be worried, the snake is most likely getting ready to shed. Just let it be, make sure it has a bunch of rocks it can rub against and a waterbowl for it to go in and drink from.

Also remember it is getting cooler outside. Many colubrids, whether native or foreign, can presumably sense this change in weather. It might be in sort of a pre-brumation fast, but then again, it could be just about anything. Especially at this time of the year though it is not unusual for snakes to go off-feed. Andy
