Waglers tree vipers

boehmei Nov 13, 2003 01:35 PM

Hey everyone,

Does anyone out there have any tips when it comes to breeding Waglers Temple Viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri)? It seems that this species is not often available as CB in captivity and I wonder if this means that it is particularly challenging to reproduce. I know that males are hard to come by but I have a pair. The male is a little young now but he should be ready to go in a few months time.

So any info regarding gestation periods, number of offspring, care of offspring (if any different from other tree vipers) will be appreciated. My greatest worry is that the female will be able to make very short work of the little male. What can I do to avoid this happening?

Thanks for any help

Ian

Hello Ian.

Tropidolaemus wagleri was allway's a great whisch for me to have. At the moment I have (I think) 2 males from a brood in Germany. The problem with your qestion is: you don't mention the place where your animals come from. Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Thayland....and so on, ist nesessery to know that. Scot lacina hase wrote a short but very good artikel, I dont know the link at this moment but if you wrote "Tropidolaemus wagleri" in Google you will find the artikel very qick. The maine problem with T. wagleri is defecation. If they eat propperly you have to watch for faeces, wen not, wait a little longer (a week) and than put the animal in warm (30 - 32 degrese Celcius)water and let them there for an hour or so, just with the head above the waterlevel. Repeat this till the animal defecate.
Wenn you have healty animals you can nurse them like any other Trimeresurus but the RH must be high 75 - 90 %, and avoid standing air.

If there is any other question please mail me personal.

Greatings Dick Visser.
