Some leo disease questions.

alebron Nov 13, 2003 03:07 PM

I am going to a reptile expo, and may get another leo, but I don't want it to infect any leos I have.

Are there any diseases that can pass from leos to people, or leos to other pets, I don't want anything to spread to my other pets.

Also, What are some things to watch out for when by a gecko at an expo? Are their any breeders to watch out for?

All help will be appreciated.

I don't believe there are any deseases that geckos and humans can carry, other geckos can though. If you purchase a new gecko at the show quarrantine it in a seperate tak for a couple of months and wash your hands after you handle it and before you handle your current gecko. Also when you go to the show bring one of those hand sanitizers you know the gel mixed with alcohol make sure it is unscented, and use it before and after handling any of the dealers stock. Be wary of thin geckos, crowded and unsanitary enclosures. A good breeder will have healthy animals at the table and clean enclosures. A good breeder will also be helpful and willing to answer any questions you have, if he/she doesn't take the time to help you don't give him/her any of your money. There are plenty of breeders and plent of geckos. Lastly if you don't see an animal you are absolutly in love with don't bring one home.
