Is this boa smart?

gray May 31, 2003 08:09 AM

Well, I have been waiting to share this because I thought I might be crazy (all my students tell me that I am....and they are teenagers....thus they know everything). I own a "homing boa". Now that you are curious....visit the link for explanation.

What I've been able to ascertain from her subtle body language,is that she is saying:"Gray, when I get in,please close the door, unplug my cords, and, for the love of GOD,please take me,lock, stock, and, barrel,to Tim's house,to live out the rest of my life!" *LOL*....that's too cool Gray, they really are a bit more intelligent than we sometimes give them credit for! great pictures! interesting observation! and...one kick-a$$ beauty,of a boa!...you "go" boy! you've got one outstanding collection, and, she's certainly a "crowning Jewel"!!! my compliments!

...but, to continue the experiment, the cage has to stay at my house. Then we see if she can find her way back from your house!! That would be at least 15 miles and proof enough that I have a "homing boa".

and feel more secure there...otherwise, there wouldn't be a waiting period for them to start eating when you get a new snake. I'm convinced that they're smarter than we give them credit.

Your story is adorable! Thanks for sharing!

My guess is she was either looking for warmth or she recognizes her hidebox and was seeking privacy.

...you can go to the bottom of that page and there is a "back" link that takes you to the main photo gallery of Jewel. 34 photos although they are getting somewhat dated. You can also get there by just going to the site (allboas.com) itself.

I have seen them.
I love your site!! You have some of the best boas!!!
I really enjoy how you have your site set up. Keep up the great work!!
And, yes....I would LOVE to see updated pics of that beauty. That, and your others.
I check there often. You had some real beauties for sale...But, the boss said no. LOL!

I really want to get new updated photos for some of animals, but I'm way behind. I have 12 that have not been photographed at all! Plus, I am designing a whole new site. I'm glad you like the current one, but I hope you like the new one better. And yes, my boss has to control the insanity as well.

Great experiment Gray. I think if he can do the 15 miles from the Ranch back to your house.. the next step is here! That is a little longer. If he makes it home, then there is NO DOUBT he is a boa with Skills!

Are you coming again this year for the Pre Daytona party here on St. Simons Island? Need to get Brendan and Tim to both come this time. Carol of course too.. we need someone not shy to get up on stage and dance!

It is coming soon!

Tim, Brendan and Carol.. how about making the arrangements a little in advance this time.. like now! We thought we were going to miss you last year until you showed at the last minute. However we stil have yet to meet Tim AKA Rainshadow. It is Tim.. right? You were a little late but Fun all the same..

Should be a great Pre Party as well.

Anyone going to Daytona down I-95 is welcome to join us here on St. Simons Island GA. We are only 3 hours from Daytona. We are on the way and will be heading down to Daytona Friday afternoon. However, Thursday night is PRE DAYTONA PARTY NIGHT on SSI GA.

Make your plans now.. and if anyone is interested in staying on the island just give me an email and I can send directions and hotels numbers etc. A great place to spend the night and get ready for the last leg of the trip to Daytona.

See anyone you recogonize in this pic?

...can we go ahead and start tomorrow?

AbsoluteApril Jun 01, 2003 02:37 PM

I did a much simpler test of one of my boas...
check out the link (I've posted it on the forum before)
I've noticed two of my other boas that seem to always try
to head back to their cages whenever they are taken out too,
I'll have to make up some more tests..

...not many people have posted about seeing similar behavior so either they haven't read it, don't care, OR we have some rare boas.
