I went into the snake room yesterday to find our 4 yearold 14' Gravid albino Laby Dead in her cage.
She was never bred till now , so i dont know if she had complications with the eggs or what. The vet is going to find out why she died. This is our first year trying to breed and it's not turning out to good so far. The other females dont see to be having any problums. But neather did she at the time of death. She was , as far as we know , Fat and happy.
She will be missed.
That's all i can say.

OUCH!!!! Sorry to hear about that Seth. I know how tough going through stuff like that is...it's a killer...BUT, I promise you it only makes you stronger. It's like one of life's little tests, if we truly have a passion to work with these animals, we will only continue to do so, good times and bad. Good luck!!

I am so sorry to hear this. I can truly relate to what you are going through. I recently lost one of my super tigers and it killed me. We loved her like we love all of our pets and she will always be remembered and never forgotten. We keep hundreds of reptiles but we find a way to love them all and it's always sad when one dies, regardless of value or species or beauty. Look me up in 6 months and I'll get another female albino laby to you for 1/3 the going rate with free shipping. How does that sound? (I hope that the people at kingsnake do not see this as a violation of tos as it is an act of compassion rather than profit)

That's realy realy nice of you Brian. You dont know how much that means to me. All of the snakes we own are pets first. We bought alot of snakes the last few months , 13 total i think , Mostly larger females , because we had plenty of males. But it's not the value , or the potential proffet.
We'd give any amount of money to have her with us still. We were so excited about her being gravid. We were high on the hog , you could say. Then his happens , It's crushing.
It's like that first gold fish your parents got you for a pet. And it died after a few years and you just wanted him back. There your friends , And Family. Not dollar signs and wealth.
Me and the wife take pride in keeping Healthy animals. Not because of ourselves , but for the animals. To give them the best life possible , seeing as we are keeping them from having a wild life. And i feel like we failed in some way. Although everything from heat to lighting to humidity were perfect.
This isnt the first snake i'v had die , I'v had one other , about 15 years ago when i was a kid. A red tail boa. And it hurt just the same. We are just going to try and get past this best we can. And we will press on with out Granite project next year if your baby's will still be available. God knows we can just hope for the best.

Do lesbian frogs think they taste like chicken too ?

Dang, man. Im so sorry.
Im getting really bummed reading about all these deaths lately. Whats going on?

r3ptile Nov 14, 2003 10:52 AM

Yes it is very unfortunate. Im just wondering what the discharge is that is often found from several of these pythons that have passed away. Sorry once again to anyone who has had to deal with this. I know its not easy.

I thought about the same thing. It's been three weeks since we lost our big girl, and I'm amazed (and puzzled and disturbed) by all the python deaths that have been posted on the forum recently. I'm still unnerved about what happened to mine. I am now moved into the new snake building, but it seems empty with only one big one out there. I am planning on getting another albino baby soon, but I haven't yet. Almost bought one this past weekend, but I decided not to. Very strange trying to replace something that has been with you that long.

Our vet called about 3pm today. They said she had blood clots in her heart. They said there are 4 veins that feed the heart H2O and Food , It's not the Main Veins that pump blood out to the body , But the little ones , 3 out of 4 were blocked by the clots. How they formed they dont know. But the stress of being gravid threw her heart into arrest and she died. In short , She had a heart attack. They couldnt tell us how long she's had the clots , but they said it would have probably been over 6 months to a year. Her poor little heart couldnt take the stress of the extra weight and pressure of the egs forming in her tummy. it makes us feel a little better that it wasnt something we "didnt" do. But it's equaly as bad because if we hadnt bred her , she'd still be alive.
I hope she didnt suffer to much. The sad thing is , is i'v had the same thing and i know it hurts like a son of a b*&%$. But i hope it happend to her in her sleep.
Anyway. Just wanted to letcha know.
Take care.
