cage dancing

hepcatmoe Nov 13, 2003 06:46 PM

how do you stop your uros from cage dancin? that is trying to get out? she is in an all glass encloser do you think that might be why? it really doesnt look that good and makes me feel bad for keepin her in the cage. Is it simply a matter of space? My Uro is about 9 inches long, what would you recommend for floor space to stop the dancin?

Hi,
I have my 8" mali, with another, in a 4.5foot long cage, but I would say a 40gal breeder (3ft long) is enough room for one uro. They are used to running, it's in their nature. Any animal will try to get out of a cage. Try to place decorations against the glass, and maybe cover some of the sides with a background, or just cardboard. I have a wooden cage with a glass front, and they only scratch at the glass front (yes, they still do it in a 4.5 ft cage). I'd just suggest getting the largest cage you have room for, or can afford. Building your own is alot cheaper (cost me nothing since I had all the materials), but 40 gal breeder tanks aren't too expensive, i think around $80. Not much else you can do except take him out to run, and give him some attention, when he is "dancing"

i have a leopard gecko who use to bump into the glass not realizing it was there,i use plain white printer paper to cover 3 sides and she stopped,i have my uro in a 3x3x2 all glass and he sometimes scales the walls so at some point card board will have to be placed up.

My two cut down on their 'dancing' by 90% once i built them an all wooden enclosure with no glass (lucite top). The little amount that they still do files down their nails shorter too. you have to put something by the edge of the walls.
