Hey,
I have UTH heat pads for all my snakes, but I think they get too hot. Is there an inexpensive thermostat I can buy to lower the heat a little?
Thanks,
Steve

You can buy a dimmer switch at any hardware store for a little bit of money just be sure to measure the surface temps of your UTH or check the KS classifieds for any on/off thermostat. MHO Thanks

ZooMed 500 I think its called, I have used, its pretty good and not taht high.
Or you could convert to very inexpensive heattape(www.beanfarm.com)
And make your own thermostat out of a dimmer switch.
Steve,
do a search on google and type in Grainger Industrial Supply. I bought a thermostat from them way before the Internet, and it still works great. I think they run $30-55 and are pretty accurate. Good luck.

We use only Ranco thermostats at our facility and we have nothing but excellent results!!! They are not the cheapest around but the reliability is top notch. I know that Tony Hurt has a few in the classifieds for sale.

I've been bouncing the idae of switching to Rancos but I see you have to wire the power cord yourself. How difficult is this to accomplish??
Thanks,
Pete
It is not hard at all. But for a few dollars more they will come already wired for use from Tony Hurt. I like the variety that he offers with the differnt set ups. In fact he can customize them to fit any length or even a double safety. I have seen the ones on the classifieds sold as a single unit and you have to wire them. But why risk your entire collection or even one snake with doing it yourself. To me it is better to buy the whole setup ready to go. Just my 2 cents. Thanks,
Wyatt
