Should I be concerned?

drewsky Nov 13, 2003 10:58 PM

I recently moved my spectackled caiman from his 150 gallon aquarium into a much larger indoor pond...I'm not sure of the gallons but I'd guess approx 350-400. The temperatures are 78-80 degrees farenheiht in the water. The basking area fluctuates because I have the light on a timer, but it rarely drops below 85 and is approx 95-98 when the light is on. I moved Buddy about a week and a half ago,and he has not eaten anything, nor has he had a bowel movement in that time. I'm not too concerned as I'm sure he needs time to adjust to the new environment. The question I have is should I be concerned, and if not approx how long should it take him to adjust and begin feeding. I'm pretty sure its just a stress issue, but I wanted a second (or third or fourth) opinion in case it is something more, any feed back is appreciated. I'd be particularly interested in a time frame for adjustment if anyone knows. Thanks, Drewsky.

If i moved my caiman this time of year, I wouldnt expect her to eat for almost a month. Its getting colder and I know at least with my animal, she wont eat for quite a while. So if it take a month or more dont be too concerned. It will eat when its ready. They wont just starve themselves to death if the habitat is suitable.

he didnt eat for a month and half. no bowel movement either
