10-hour power outage and a cold horned frog...

ginevive Nov 14, 2003 07:09 AM

I felt really bad for Benny the horned frog last night. We went home at 7pm only to find our power was out, and had been since 9 AM! And when out power goes out, so does our house's heat and the heaters for our herp and fish tanks.
My 2 ball pythons, marine toad, and horned frogs were both freezing cold to the touch. I was not as worried about our other frogs, since they are cold-weather-is-ok types like leopard frogs. My boyfriend and I had to brave the blustery snow to get kerosene from our neighbor, and we quickly got the kerosene heater started up and warmed everyone. Then the power returned soon after. But Benny was not too happy about the chilly 50-defree temps that she had to endure all day. Luckily, everyone appears fine this morning. Stupid power outages!

WOW! I can't stand cold weather. I'm glad the power got back on. Fortunately pacmans are pretty strong.

My eyelash frog is still croaking now and then although my bullfrog ceased croaking entirely but he's still eating from time to time. Ever hear an eyelash frog croak? Sounds like an exceptionally LOUD quack--very strong. In fact from inside the house in my bedroom I can hear it clear into the back AND front yard. Sometimes it has a surprise QUACK it makes me jump. When you least expect it when your back is turned. Like a loud car horn--that loud.

And yes he can QUACK in the middle of the night too, which not only awaken me but scares me very badly to the point I scream from fright to be done so abruptly.

but he's sooooo cute. He really loves his bubble stone in the shallow bowel of water. Turn that on he plays in it.

Wow! I know what it's like, getting awoken from a sound sleep by a croaking frog. It can be doubly entertaining if you have overnight guests!
