White Color on Nigerian's Head

pgross8245 May 31, 2003 10:11 AM

I have an orange phase nigerian which shed recently, but on the top of his head and a little into the neck the color is white. You can clearly see the round scales and it looks like candle wax. Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions or just leave him be. Thanks.

Sometime's uro's will shed allmost everything, but a couple of places....DO NOT pick at the skin. It is most likely a shedding taking place that is taking a bit longer. My mail's tails usually take a bit longer, sometimes will turn allmost a jet white just before it falls off....in that case the shedded skin was quite thick. To assist in the shed you can soak your uro in a very hot bath (hot to our touch) MAKE SURE to dry your uro comepletely make sure the tail is esspecially dry, as your uro can develop tail rot due to pending moisture in the whorls of the tail...I towel dry, then put a hairdryer on medium ....and hold from a distance (not to burn or hurt the uro)....works well.

My young Mali female looks like she has a white cap on, but I can tell it is still part of the shedding process. They take a while to shed, as opposed to my skink, who sheds his whole body in one day!!

Thanks everyone! I have never seen one shed like this so I was concerned. I'll guess I will just have to be patient. He was not too thrilled when I put a nice hot washcloth on the top of his head!

My mali had some white patches on his face. I didn't know whether I should be concerned about it or not until he started shedding like crazy a few days later. On closer inspection, it was only shed.
