Tropic-Aire question and question for Jeff

miamixj Nov 14, 2003 11:24 AM

What is best air pump to use with a Tropic-Aire system? I am housing 2 BRB in a Vision 322 enclosure which works out to about a 75Gal aquarium and want to use Tropic-Aire system to keep the humidity up. For that size tank I will probably need 2 Tropic-Aire and was wondering what is a good air pump to use with them. I would prefer one pump with 2 outlets and something that is quite, any suggestions. Is there a minimum amount of air the pump/pumps should put out to make the Tropic-Aires most effective.

Jeff,

I know you said you tape the vents on your visions. Do you tape all the way shut? Is there enough air circulation for them to breath if you do that with just the front glass slits? Your thoughts?

Thanks

Jorge,
. Yes,
I tape over every inch of the screens. The only ventilation in my Vision cages is the small gp beteen the sliding doors.

I currently use the Tropic-Aire with a Rena pump on my Ball Python's 50 gallon glass tank. I've kept fish for years and the Rena pumps are the quietest I've ever found. The largest model Rena 400 has 2 outlets and is for an 80-160 gallon tank.

Hope this helps!

I am not exactly sure, but i think you should have around four tropic-aires. I have one set up on a 20gl long, and it stays around 85%humidity, without spraying. I have only the small gap where the tube goes in. But from what i remember from the instructions was, that there should be one tropic aire for every 20 or so gallons. And for a tank you are describing, better go with four, and two powerful pumps with dual ports. My brazilian sheds with ease and her skin is very smooth and shiny. Tropic aire really does make it quite nice, and easy. Although, three would be ok if it is really sealed up nicely, one end piece per side, excluding the glass.

Hmmm. I'll have to pull my instructions out - I don't remember it saying you have to use multiple Tropic-Aire for larger tanks. I've been thinking about adding a second one for my BP anyway, but that's interesting to know.

I am using 2 and a large pump and humidity is in the mid 80's.. However, I am in Miami!
