Can't get red tail to eat....

philip_s May 31, 2003 10:49 AM

Hey all, I have had the worst luck with geting my red tail to eat. I have had her since a baby, and she was a pig, ate every thing in sight like a normal boa. Now she is 5 foot, and for the past year or two, she has been extreamly picky, she ate only once in december, never did January, she finaly started eating every 15-20 days if I put her in a rubbermaid over night with a f/t brained jumbo rat over night. But whats her problem? Before december she went for about 4 months with out eating, and was extreamly picky before that. What should I try doing? My temps are right, and I have a good thermogradent, she has more then enouth hide aways, and I haved slowed down alot on handleding trying to do away with any stress. What should I do? Any advice or tips would be great, also she has farly good weight, but she is not over weight by any means, and could use some more fat. Much less I have had her for two years and she is only 5 feet, seems like most boas are a little bigger. Well thanks,
Philip

That is actually a fine size for 2 years of age...most of the bigger boas you see at 2 are on a heavy feeding regimen and are bigger then naturally "designed" to be...

As far as the going off feed, it could just be that she doesn't want to eat. ( I have a picky eating male rainbow that will go off feed for a few months at a time...depending how he feels I guess.lol) I would not worry about it as long as she maintains weight and still shows growth... Good luck with it. Later Randy T.
