baby can't keep food down!!!!

TracyR Nov 14, 2003 02:07 PM

Baby corn had for about six weeks and fed every Tuesday 1 pinky. This Tuesday he had a larger than usual pinky, actually I think it was a hamster pinky the pet store gave me, not a mouse. The next day he threw it up in the water dish. That night I gave him a smaller pinky MOUSE and the next day same thing. I know they regurg. if it's too big but why the second time? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tracy

When you get sick and puke, do you eat something right away? Most likely not so why would your snake want to eat a pinky a few hours after puking up a pinky?
When a snake regurges, you should wait at least a week before trying to feed them again. Some breeders wait a week, others wait 10 days, and I've heard of waiting 2 weeks. I usually wait at least 1 week, sometimes 10 days. The first meal after a regurge should be small.
Also, it is better to feed two small pinkies instead of hamster pink/fuzzy. If the pet store does not have what you need, a larger food item is not always a good idea. Skip a feeding or give two smaller items.
Good luck

One of my amels regurged last Sat. But that was kinda my fault(actually my sisters). The meal wasn't too big but my sister accidently unpluged their heating mat and didn't move them while she vaccummed the house so the poor corn either got REALLLY cold or REALLY scared and puked up the two small fuzzies and I didn't discover the heater unpluged until 24 hrs. later and by that time there was two smelly regurged mice in there. So I was going to give her a week and let her system rest and feed her a pinky and see how she does...besides two of my other corns were in shed this week and the 4th corn had a good sized meal it took a while to digest, so I gave her a few extra days, they'll all live and get back on the same schedule tomorrow.

Just let the corn have a rest like a week or so and try a small meal and I'm sure it'll be fine.

Good luck.

Right, after a regurge you have to wait a week to 10 days. Feeding right after a regurge will result in another one.

Makes sense, he's just so little I didn't think he could go that long without eating.

Thank you both for the help.

As long as their last meal (the one before the regurg) was assimilated just fine, they can go a long time without eating. I've heard they can go more than a month without eating, but the longest I personally know of has been 24 days. In the wild, if they are hibernating, they can go for much longer. They are tougher than most of us think.
