beardeds and mealworms

ragateway Nov 14, 2003 02:46 PM

Hi all:
I have heard that you should not feed mealworms to beardeds due to the fact that they are difficult for them to digest. Is this true? If so what do you feed them instead of mealworms?

Thanks for the great advice
Ralph

mealworms are okay as a treat and shouldn't be the main live prey source. also, they shouldn't be fed to a beardie that is too small. mine is 12" and i just started giving them to him.
crickets should be the main source as long as they are no bigger than the space between their eyes.

Mealworms should be used as a treat. If they are fed to often i belive they can cause impaction and they are fatty. Feed him crickets or silkworms for his live food and then dont forget about his greens!~

You can get silkworms from mulberry farms (www.mulberryfarms.com). Other feeder suppliers also could carry them, check the list of feeder suppliers on the main page here at kingsnake.com.

If you are in Canada, www.silkworms.ca carries them as well.
