morgana - leaf questions

lele May 31, 2003 11:13 AM

...I suppose I should get a finer mist bottle.

1- Where do you get these Hudson's?

2- Do you use a dripper? I am doing the pin-hole in the cup thing which works fine but I keep moving it around and sometimes stuff gets too soaked. Do you just let it drip into one place all the time (like a bowl) so it can easlily be removed and cleaned? I read on AdCham that they aren't even necessary but other places that I should.

3- you may have already answered this about supplements. I am using Montane Fruit Fly from www.herpnutrition.com/ and her site says use every meal and Liddy said every 7-10 days. My guys are about three months old.

4- I looked at the photos on your site (very nice). Do you have any of your leaf set up? I see the partial, but would love to see the whole thing. I use horticultural grade charcoal, pea stone, more charcoal then more stone - all for drainage and sweetening - then my soil (soil-less) and repti-bark. It's fine (I used to make terrariums) but would still like to see others.

5- Ed did his best to i.d. one of mine as a male and said he is 95% sure. it's been hard for me to tell except for his overall size (smaller). When is the hemipene developed enough on these little guys to tell?

Thanks!!! It's great having you there

I didn't mean to exclude anyone by putting Morgan's name in the heading

Hi again Lele,

>>1- Where do you get these Hudson's?

You can purchase these misters at a nursery - or at Fred Meyer stores.

>>2- Do you use a dripper?

No... not on the leaf chams. I mist several times a day - aiming for the plants' leaves.

>>3- you may have already answered this about supplements. I am using Montane Fruit Fly from www.herpnutrition.com/ and her site says use every meal and Liddy said every 7-10 days. My guys are about three months old.

Currently, there is a lot of controversy about over supplementation. We have found that is you feed gut-loaded crickets - then dusting is a rare necessity.

>>4- I looked at the photos on your site (very nice). Do you have any of your leaf set up?

I can take some pics for you.
The charcoal, pea gravel, etc sounds good. Is the base about 4" deep?

5- Ed did his best to i.d. one of mine as a male and said he is 95% sure. it's been hard for me to tell except for his overall size (smaller). When is the hemipene developed enough on these little guys to tell?

I am pretty good at I.D.ing them (brevs).. can tell sometimes at 3 days old. Send me some pics. I'll try to help. The hemipenes are noticable when they get to be about 3-5 months. We have hatched over 100 cb brevs... over the years, I see patterns that let me know if they are male or female when very small.

Thanks Morgana,

yes, the sub is about 4" at it's lowest and 5" at it's highest (I do garden design so this is just a mini-woodland garden for me I can't wait to do the 30 gallon!!

2- Do you use a dripper?

No... not on the leaf chams. I mist several times a day - aiming for the plants' leaves.

I think I am going to stop - not worth it

What is your gut load "recipe"? I just give them lots of fruit and veges and an all natural crix food from herpnutrion

I don't have a digi-cam yet, but will be getting one VERY soon. Have already started pricing and doing my research. Well, if the yellow eyes is only on male, then Ed (Kammer) is right on. He was making google eyes at the biggest female...hmmmm wonder what they're doing when the light go out

Guess I better give them some names if I'm going to be a grandma!LOL!

As always, Thanks

Lele,

Since we have several clutches of hatchlings currently and over 100 enclosures for our chams - we use a lot of crickets. Currently we are only using 6-7,000 per week, but in another month, that should almost double (expecting lots of young'ns)

Our gutload is ground up and mixed in a big tub (one of those with the rope handles). We use ingredients such as rice cereal; fish flakes; kitten kibble; powdered milk; spirulina; other vitamins. When we get done - we have quart and gallon freezer bags that get filled. We keep the gutload in a cool, dry place.

Along with the dry mix, we give carrots, yams, squash; pumpkin and other veggies. The crickets are fat.. and nutritious.

Morgana
