New Snake

I recently bought a w/b band Kingsnake and I had a few questions about keeping it. First of all, he is very defensive right now, is there anyway to tame it. I am hoping it is due to the ride here, and he is just stressed right now. Also, one quick question is: What should the temp be maintaned at? Does the heat lamp need to be on 24/7? Any help on these two questions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How old is the kingsnake? If it's young, that's just how they are. Otherwise just try walking by the tank and talking to it so it gets used to your movement, and hold it every day except after feeding it. You be the boss of it, don't let it be the boss of you, and your snake should calm down. I do know how frustrating it is though. My kingsnake is really calm some days and other days it wants you to stay five feet away at least, although mine is about 5 months old now. If you hear anything else concerning this, I'd love to hear about it too! Good luck!
