Every once in a while, I see these incredible eveball pics that take up the whole screen, showing detail that you can't see with the naked eye. Is that just a really good 5 mp digital doin' that or some 10,000 dollar professional camera?

IF YOU HAVE IT SHOW IT. IF YOU OWN IT FLAUNT IT!!
No, those pics are not taken with a $10,000 camera. Those really sharp close ups with great detail are taken in macro mode. I use a nikon coolpix 995, 3.3 megapixel, great macro shots, great exposure due to the superior metering system and nikon lenses. I would suggest checking out the nikon models. Digital cameras can have an overwhelming amount of control, lots of settings. Be prepared to spend some time reading and checking your shots on a computer. Email me if you have any specific questions.

I just wanted to echo John in recommending a Nikon...Nikon has some great cameras. You can also look into lens attachments such as an additional macro lens for your camera. The picture below is of my Albino Boa's eye. I didn't take a photo of her eye but rather a close-up head-shot. However, the photo quality of my camera is so high that the pictures I get are huge. I simply cropped out the eye and posted it here for you to see. This eye is full sized right out of the camera with no editing done to it at all...
