Digging in cypress?

jdougherty Nov 14, 2003 07:57 PM

I have several balls - a couple babies on newsprint, and the rest on cypress. One of my BP's has recently begun to 'remodel' his enclosure on a regular basis. He digs 'tunnels' through his cypress, and I'm worried that with his reckless abandon the substrate may become lodged in his pits, mouth or may damage an eye. His temperatures are nominal (as are all of my others), humidity is always at 50-60%, 70-75% during sheds. I haven't changed anything about my husbandry, and I'm wondering if I should be worried/put him back on newsprint, e.t.c...?

I've never had a problem with cypress hurting a snake, and I've got 7 snakes on it right now (including a burrowing python).

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

i once put a plant in with one, and the little bastard practically attacked the plant:-0!
but yeah, this is normal behavior. and i wouldn't worry about the heat pits. they manage just fine burrowing in the wild.
