Help!!!! New bd wont eat anything.

Jthmpsn Nov 14, 2003 09:53 PM

I got a pair of BDs in the mail yesterday and when i got them out they both eat 6 or so crickets. The smaller one now will not eat anything i offered. The large one did however eat twice so hes fine.
I read that sometimes when kept together the smaller dragon will not eat because it is intimidated so i separated them. I have the basking spots at the right temps and everything should be good as far as care goes. I would be glad to get any tips you have. Also let me know how long it took for your dragons to settle in from moving them.

Thanks alot

It's been 3 days for mine, he's not used to it yet. He still won't eat a whole lot. I've been taking him out for soaks and handling too, so I'm going to try leaving him alone for a few days and keep offering food.

It may take a few days for your new bearded dragons to get used to their new home. Keeping them separated is a good ideal as well. I would take fecals from both to the vet as soon as possible to rule out any parasites.

I think it's best to leave them alone and try to keep the activity in the room their cages are to a minimum as well. Or, cover part of the cage with a cloth to give it a better sense of security.

Like the others said, it can take quite a while for them to settle in. Sometimes as long as a week for them to really come back to normal.
Some dragons eat straight out of the shipping box and continue this way like nothing ever happened, but those are the exception to the rule LOL

Try to keep handling down to a minimum and just keep offering food several times a day.
