Eh 6-12", after that you're seriously risking nose rubbing problems, which can lead to jaw problems, and later eating problems.

i keep all juveniles under 12''stl in 55 gallon tanks. once they reach 12 inches or if they are feeling cramped i move them up to a bigger cage...
