Rat breeding

Lotzakritters Nov 14, 2003 10:31 PM

Hi all.
I have been breeding mice for along time, with a lot of success.
Some of my snakes are getting to big for mice, so I wanted to start breeding rats. I have had a colony of 1.3 for about 3 months and nothing is happening. Is the male a dud, Should I feed him off and get another male.
Thanks...........

How old are your rats? If they are quite old, maybe the females are past breeding prime or they just haven't settled into their new home yet. Typically however, 3 months should be plenty of time to establish a new colony. I would consider getting a new male and see how that works.

I bought them as med.size rats. They sleep in there own corner,
and the females seem to have no interest in him... He chases them around, smells them, and just wrestles with them a little.
Do you think it is the male or the females??????

When i first started with mice,it took them about 2 1/2 weeks to start breeding, now there is no stopping them. I call them the (ENERGIZER MICE),they keep going and going and ..............................................going.....

Any info would help,
