Babies are here!

Ody Nov 15, 2003 12:30 AM

Well, I wasn't quite ready for this yet. I thought I had another week or so before they'd hatch. Anyway, just want to be sure here, I'm supposed to leave the babies in the incubator for a day or two right? Or isn't that required? I'm finishing getting their tanks set up right now (making sure the temps are OK and everything), so they could go in there tomorrow. But I don't want to move them too soon.

I'm a bit flustered right now. I came home from work tonight and went up to check on the eggs, and there's 10 babies all the way out, and about 5 more with their heads out. When I checked last night there were like 3 eggs that had started to collapse just a little bit, but that was it. I thought I'd have a bit more of a warning before they came, but obviously not. Well, time to get back to work to make sure everything is ready for them. If anybody has any advice or info on their first couple days of life I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!!

Babies shouldn't be left in the incubator more than 24 hours. In fact, if there is no sign of a yolk on the babies, you can take them out right away. I would get evertying ready as quickly as possible so you can take out the babies. With so many out of the egg, they may damage other eggs by running around trying to get out.

You can set them up in a rubbermaid or sterlite container with just a basking light for heat till your main setup is ready. If it takes more than a day or two, make sure you suppliment every meal with calcium D3.

My babies are moved into their new tubs the same day they hatch. Just make sure your temps are good and keep them well hydrated. They won't be interested in food for a day or so .... so don't freak if they don't eat for you till Monday or so.

If you need any help or have some questions, feel free to drop me a line via email at Info@BeginnersBasics.com

Good luck!
