Feedback need on ghost boa

ECTOTHERMZ... Feb 08, 2003 07:56 PM

Hey everyone! Just wanted to get some feedback on this guy. Last week I purchased this guy as a hypo 66% het anery. Along with him I also bought another hypo 66% het anery. Well anyways the gentlemen that I purchased him through said that it actually didn't look like a hypo at all rather a ghost. So I contacted Jimmy at Tex-Hiss Reptile(Great guy) the producer of these guys to ask a few questions. They are a product of dbl het ghost X double het ghost and there were ghosts produced in the litter. I emailed him a few pics and even he said that it looks like a ghost but just wanted to get some opinions and feedback on them. I'm postin a pic with a hypo, anery and the possible ghost to see what everyone thinks. Any feedback as to what you think on him would be great. Thanks for your time everyone and look forward to hearing your responses.

Jason, That is a super snake. I go by the tail and
it has too much black like the picture of my
anery included here. In ghosts you don't have that. Ask Bill Kirby to comment on this. In the ghosts the black that appears in true aneries appears more brownish washed out and light light. Hope this might help...Richard

I also think it is a very nice anery. I completely agree with comments about black above and below the vent. The anerys that come from ghost litters tend to be some of the lightest I have seen and some make you wonder about a ghost but I find the black on the head and past the vent to be real destinguishing factors. In addition the overall body color in ghosts tends to be lighter than in the anery litter mates. The other animal that is pictured again below looks like a nice hypo. Obviously the proof is in the breeding and breeding this anery with another anery will let you know if it is a ghost or not.

Justin,
A Ghost boa is a Hypomelanistic Anery. Like in most of the Hypos and Ghost that we have produced and from what I have been told by Jeff Ronne, the black rings around the tail pattern will only start to show up past the cloaca in true Hypos. Now this is not always true! We have a Calico Hypo from Jeremy Stone that is Het Anery and her rings start above her cloaca. Her are a couple of pics of some Ghost boas from 00' and 01'. The 00' female is from an Anery to D-Het Ghost breeding and the 01' is from a D-Het Ghost X D-Het Ghost making him a possible dominant Ghost. If you will notice the black rings are hardly visible and that they start past the cloaca. Im my opinion that is a very nice Anery that you have.

Thanks,
Wyatt
