Lavender Albino Breeding...

MikeWilbanks Nov 15, 2003 09:23 AM

Bob Clark and I imported this Lavender Albino female last year. She was gravid, but skinny and in rough condition. She laid 7 eggs, 6 hatched. Right after she laid, she started eating. We spent the summer feeding her as much as she would eat and putting her weight back on. She is in perfect health now and one of her het sons has been courting her for the last couple of weeks. I came in this morning to find this.

Man,

She looks so much better than she did in than she did in the African photos like a totally new animal. Good luck!

Thats awsome that you got her to breed, but right back to her son? I'd more or less understand if it was a small time breeder who needed to, but you said Bob was invovled. He doesn't have any other hets or homozygous animals laying around?

IMO, incest is something to avoid when possible. But sometimes exceptions need to be made.

This animals was just imported from Africa this year. Every simple recessive gene has initially been pulled out through inbreeding.
