Common Boa As A First Snake?

rfmaui99 Nov 15, 2003 11:23 AM

I have been researching this topic on my own for awhile and I'm more confused now then when I started. My research has found both positive and negatives about the common boa. I would like to know average size, temperment or any other information that would be helpful in determining if this would be a good choice as my first snake.

Thanks For Your Help
Russ

Not because of size,or,temperment though. start with a cornsnake,if you HAVE to have a boa,go with a Rosy boa. the average person starting out with snakes, will not be able to provide a temperature controled room specificly for their pet, and, this should be considered mandatory, rather than optional.(IMHO)

I dove in head first with colombian boas. Long as you do your homework and research them before hand you shouldn't have a problem.

If this is your first snake and your set on it being a boa, try one of the smaller species such as Hogg Islands. Smaller, easier to handle, calm down once they are about 6 months old, etc. If your not set on a boa, look into corns or even a ball python.
