Veiled Breeding....

herpersteve Nov 15, 2003 01:50 PM

I put this girl in with a slightly bigger male. At first she did not show any outrageous colors though she did appear to become a tid bit darker. The male immediately went towards her, after a little it of chasing he seemed to overpower her. It seemed as though the breeding was going well, but after maybe 20-30 seconds the girl turned this color and started trying to bite the male. Did mating occur in that small amount of time??? I believe these are gravid colors because of a picture in a book I have. If the female had already produced infertile eggs, would she be showing these colors to get him away?
Thanks for any responces in advance,
Steve

When I bred mine, the girl was that wicked aweful colour the entire time. She didn't try to bite the male, so I left him in there for almost 3 hours. In that time I knew they had mated successfully, so I took him out. She went on to lay 50 fertile eggs(that are almost ready to hatch now). That was my experience, we actually saw the male "doing his thing" and that's how I knew. Did you witness anything and how long did you keep them together? Everything I've read said that if she turned that black colour 24 hours after mating, then it was successful. I didn't notice any colour change afterwards. She went back to her passive green colour, with robin's egg blue dots on her back. I hope my rambling helped some, I'm nowhere close to an expert on the subject.

Good luck.
