um...problem

drako32186 Nov 15, 2003 02:39 PM

Um. I got 3 geckos a few months back and didn't really think anything of it... I caged them all together and they've been fine. The other day when I cleaned out the cage, I found 2 dried out eggs. I now know that I have a male and 2 females. So I'm going to put the little boy in his own cage, but my girl just laid 2 more eggs this morning. I'm just a kid, and I don't have money to make or buy an incubator....unless you can make them really cheap.

So I thought of a different plan: Is there anyone in the Indianapolis area that breeds and could take the eggs or something for me...?

I really don't want them to die....it kills me that I didn't think of this....

If anyone can help, please let me know.

thanks

I incubated my first leo eggs in a cool whip container. I've also incubated gecko eggs in rubbermaid shoe boxes.

This site has great step by step incubation instructions:
http://www.albeysreptiles.com/incubate-eggs.htm

You can make some alterations to the method outlined on the website to fit your budget. If you don't have a digital scale you can use a postage scale to weigh out the substrate and water or you can just wet the substrate until it's moist but not wet (this is what I did my first year). I've also used vermiculite, but have had a greater hatch rate with perlite. Both are available from hardware and department stores with gardening sections (I get my perlite at Wal-mart) just make sure that no fertilizer has been added.

You can purchase incubators on-line for relatively little. I got my first hova-bator on ebay for less than $40.

Hope this helps!

just get a tubber ware container for 1$ go to a home depot or walmart or some were get a bag of perlite take ur container boke 4 small holes (screw driver size) in the side of the container put about 2 inches of perlite in it moist it down to wear its not soake but nice and moist stick the eggs in there dont roll them at all or they will die and just stick on top of ur leos cage if it has a light or some other warm spot above 80 degrees dont stick em in direct light or theyll cook

p.s im only 13 i did this for chameleon eggs and it worked

have fun aaron
