I've got mites! ....

snakeroom.net May 31, 2003 01:14 PM

Not the type that the vet had thought before... I started to soak my animals in some mildly soapy water, 45 minutes at a time, all of those little b@stards started to come off, and were finally visible to me... They are black in color... and my water bowls are all black!!

Thank you Doug T. for recommending Pro-Vent! I assume this is the best for the eradication of these...
Today I'm off to buy some Front Line Spray, moth balls, and pest strips, until I can order some of the good stuff, ... I read on VPI and they recommended Black Knight...
Is any better than the other?
I plan on vacumming my place with moth balls in the vaccum, cutting pest strips and placing around the outside of the cages, and treating them initially with the Front Line spray...

The infected are about 20ft away from my others, do you think a small piece of pest strip, placed around the cages would keep them away?

Any tips are greatly, greatly appreciated!

Thank you to everyone for your help! This forum is great!!

Well, I think you know why they were soaking in their water bowls now. I also hope you start a quarantine protocol. It would suck to lose a jaguar to something as stupid and preventable as a mite infestation.

As far as Black Knight, I've heard a LOT of people have had problems with it. Ask Tim Schroeder if you want an example. I've only used Provent-A-Mite, and have never had any problems with it. I've only used it prophylactically, though--never as a treatment for mites.

Provent-a-mite, I used a few other products with little or no success on three infestations, then I used provent-a-mite once and they were gone. Easy to use and safe if you follow directions.

Suprisingly when I went to the pet store, they had Pro Vent, I bought two cans, and followed the directions, well see if those little guys come back, .. I doubt it though!!
Thanks again everyone
