Quick Question about Locality Specific GTPs and morphs???

peterfromme Nov 15, 2003 06:35 PM

Hi,

I recently attended a reptile show and I over heard a conversation with a vendor and a customer. The vendor was telling the guy that Aru's tend to have white marks as adults. He also said that Biak's and Lereh's tend to develop the blue markings in adulthood.

Is this true?

I thought the blue markings/striping was genetically passed on? Are the markings more locality specific or based on genetics?
I'm a little confused...

Thanks,

Peter F.

Both. Coloring is related to locality but only because of genetic inheritence.

It's true that animals from the Aru Islands tend to have more white spots but by no means a rule. It's also true that northern mainland animals (including Sorongs) tend to have a more defined blue pattern but Biaks are more usually associated with retaining yellow than developing blue.

...Lerehs, not Sorongs, which are also a northern mainland form.
