Leo Hide Concern

Biscuit71 Nov 15, 2003 10:08 PM

I am not sure if i should be worried or not... I have a pair of Leos.. and well, I made a hide like i was told, out of a tupperware with a hold cut in the top so they could get in and out, with moist Vermiculite in it. Well, to make a long story short, I put it in, and They never came out.... AT ALL. I mean, food was in the dish, and they never touched it, they just stayed in the hide all the time. It went on like this for about a month or so. They never ate that I could tell... and I counted teh worms and all.
So, i took out the hide, and they are eating again, and all is as it was before..... Has anyone had a problem like this with thiers?

My baby gecko Pumpkin did somehting similiar. He continued to eat, but he almost never came out. My adults rarely come out of their hide, mainly only to eat. My juviniles (spelling?) come out and lay around the cage, on their rocks or their hammocks. It really depends on the gecko. I wouldn't b e worried about them hiding all the time, except if they aren't eating. Do they still have some form of hide in their cage? It can stress them out if they have no where to hide. Just figured I'd let you know my experiences. Good luck with them.

Did you put the hole in the very top? Are they able to climb out?

Do they have anywhere else to hide in their enclosure?

I do have another hide in the cage... it is just a rock shelter, but they go into there. The hide that was in the cage was a Humid hide. The opening was at the top, but they would come out every now and then... Mostly the male would come out.. the female wouldnt.. that i would ever see anyway.
