Escaped BRB!!!

baja Nov 15, 2003 10:47 PM

I read here, but now I have a problem. My BRB is loose in the house somewere. I hope he's still in the house. Been a week & it's cold. My house is about 65 most of the time and I'm wondering if I don't find him, if he'll sleep where ever he is for the rest of the winter. Deb

Deb,
. How big is your BRB? If it is a little one it will dehydrate if the humidity in your house is low. The indoors humidity is usually well below 50% during heating or airconditioning season and this will dehydrate a little BRB. 65 degrees is less than ideal for BRBs but they will survive for quite awhile without getting respiratory problems at that temperature. When BRBs escape they nearly always go into the closest tight hiding place they can find and stay there. They will get inside furniture or walls if they can find an opening. They will get into bookcases and hide behind the books. In a closet they will hide in shoes or climb up inside the hanging clothes. Many cabinets in bathrooms and kitchens are installed with a small gap at the top of the kickboard. This is hidden by the framework of the cabinet and it makes an excellent snake hiding place.

Jeff,
Thanks for responding. He's about 5'. And I just found him & guess what!!! Geeeezzzzz, I've had him about 6 yrs, never a strike, never a problem & he just bit me. OUCH!!!! About 20 min ago & still bleeding. Now I'm nervous about getting him back in his enclosure. Now what???
Any way, I had set out pots & pan of water in all the rooms & he came to one of them.

Glad you found him. Last year I had a hatchling that escaped. After two weeks I figured that there was no way he could survive and was gone for good. To soothe my sorrow I purchased a yearling female. The next night, we were awakened by the cat clawing at our box springs. The lost snake was curled up in the box springs. So now, a year later I have a happy healthy pair of BRB's (but they don't live together)

hahaha, that's pretty funny because when my BRB escaped, i was looking all over the place for her. I had looked everywhere and finally went to my closet (which is right beside her tank) and reached my hand back behind a sleeping bag in the corner...wham, 80 needle sharp teeth in my finger...i was more relieved to find her though than pissed at the bite...i think that since she was in complete darkness and couldn't see anything, she picked up the sudden temp change my warm hand caused and struck at it...they do have the heat pits ya know, that's what i figured mine did. It's just interesting you say that the one time she bit you was when she escaped, because that is exactly the same as mine, never bit except that one time.

Yea, that's what I'm wondering. It was about 65 in my house and I was wondering if he bit me cause I'm more than 30 deg warmer than he was when I touched him.
