Hatchlings update (with pics)

xelda Nov 16, 2003 02:50 AM

My first clutch of hatchlings are 19 days old now. I feel so lucky that I haven't run into any problems! They're eating and pooping and growing! No joke, but they each poop 3 times a day.

If you kneel down and look at their enclosure at eye level, they both will come up to peek at you like this. It's adorable!

I'll try to get more pictures. It's hard to get good ones, because they're so stealthy and fast. They're like little ninja geckos. lol

Looking great! I still love that one with the tear drop on its back. Have you been feeding them on 100% mealworms? Im still waiting for my very last egg of the season to hatch. Its at 42 days right now, and its clutch-mate egg went bad about 2 weeks ago. Im assuming it was infertile, but it stayed white for so long before it went bad. hmmm.. Oh well, I hope this last one makes it. She'll be my albino het for next season. hehe

Thank you, Joe. The one with the teardrop is my favorite, because she is so cute and curious about everything.

Yes, I've been feeding them entirely on mealworms. I never got to see their first shed, but when they were 5 days old, I saw them sticking their heads out as if they were waiting for food. So I put a clear shallow dish with some mealworms. And it didn't take them much longer after that to learn how to eat from a regular bowl. I was impressed.

I hope everything goes well with your last egg! My last one hatched just hatched a few days ago. It took 67 days--the same amount it took this first clutch. Good luck with everything.
