For Slate/Ceramic Tile users

jack7777766 Nov 16, 2003 05:08 AM

I want to put either slate or ceramic tiles as a substrate for my leos tanks, I had a few questions.

Which type should I use: slate, ceramic or someother type? why?

How do you get them to form a tight fit? I would hate having gaps and it seems very dificult not to get at least some gaps?

Thanks
Jack

Hi Jack
I use these 4x4 squares of just plain rock. I found this at a Lows. It works great and my gecko seems to like it. BUT, if you have an undertank heeter without a thermostat these rocks get VERY warm. I found an easy way instaed of spending $40 for a thermostat to just fold paper towels and stick under the UTH and then place your humid hise over that.

I used a tile chipper that we got at home depot. We used this on normal tile when we did our kichen in tile. It was hard to work with on these rocks but i got it to go. The rocks fit nice and snug in the tank and i haven't had any problems with mealies going under them or crickets either.

Hope this helps,
Eric
