Gecko rescue, need some diet info please

Zim Nov 16, 2003 10:10 AM

I'm a snake man, but I have some limited experience with lizards. A friend is bringing me his roomates leo because she doesn't think she can take good enough care of it. I have no problems taking care of it until i can either find it a good home or until I just decide to keep it anyway My question is whether or not I can get away with using mealworms are the majority for the diet. Not a huge majority, but I would rather keep mealworms in my apartment than crickets, because if the crickets started getting loose, my roomates would probably kill me. I was just planning on stopping twice a weeks or so for the crickets, but keeping a more steady supply of mealworms on hand. If someone could please find the fault in this logic, you'd be helping me and an innocent lizard out.

Excuse me sir, is this the Delta House?

Sure! C'mon in!

Hi

Yes, you could feed them a staple of mealworms, but make sure to gutload the meal worms first. Check other mealworm posts for gutloading ideas.

Also like you said, you could go to the petstore once or twice a week and pick up some crickets to give your gecko a change up in food, but gutload them first for at least 24 hours in advance.

Take Care, TLB

mealworms are a great staple diet for leos just remember to dust the mealies with calcium / vitamins before you feed them. so you're taking care of them before you give them to a new home? where are you from? hehe
