Garter diet.

daduru Nov 16, 2003 11:23 AM

What tips can be given to switch a garter onto live fish. On my tank I have a divider that is caulked that allows me to have 3 inches of water for fish to live. So far my snake hasnt attempted a go at catching them. Although he perches above them on a overhanging branch i have, so he is aware they are there. Does the size of the snake effect its choice of diet? currently now he is eating decent size worms 1-2 times a day, and approximately 8-10 inches long. I am attempting to feed him rosy reds. Thanks.

I offered mine directly to the snake using hemostats/tongs.
But I also started mine on tiny chunks of fish before that.
You could try the direct offer, or cut up a fish or two and place it on a small "dish" (I used to cut the bottom out of a paper cup and put cut-up minnow in that). Good luck . Duffy

Thanks for the help. The garter already nailed two rosy reds i offered to him. Eventually I hope he acquires the desire to hunt for them in water.
