an update on the designer snow male california from 2003 that was not eating

electricbluescat Nov 16, 2003 04:57 PM

i offered him a live pinkie today and he ate it. it had been since 11-06-03 since he ate. he would not eat a frozen thawed pinkie. i am just glad he at hes eaten both before with no problems. i hope he gets back to frozen thawed though. as its much less trouble .

I have a hatchling prairie king that still will not take F/T. Only live pinks. Eventually he will make the switch......

The desinger snow male cali king has eat both before. Some snakes are like that some are not. it just depends on the snake
I have a feeling he will change over soon again to frozen thawed. have you tried braining the frozen pinkies after they are thawed sometimes that helps.

Yep I have tried braining. Doesnt work on this little guy. He will smell it and then turn his nose up at it. But as soon as I put a live pink in, BAM, he is all ove it! Oh well, just glad he eats! He will eventually switch over.

Thanks
It was from a gravid W/C rescue that had a broken jaw. While it was being cared for to rerelease it layed eggs.
So it is a KY locale.

Dang John...............I was going to order one of those from Rick right away, only to find out it was the wrong pic !!!

Was that spotted born on 7/22/03 ??? Sisters ???

electricbluescat Nov 18, 2003 08:44 PM

Lol i thought i put the right pic up when I was putting the pic on the forum. she was born on 7-25-03. her fathers number is 3 and the mothers number is 1. what is the parents numbers of yours? they very well could be sisters cuz it can take a few days for all of the eggs to pip and hatch.

Father 3, Mother 3..................

Dad got around I guess..............I wonder if mother 1 and mother 3 know about each other !! Shouldn't one of us be getting child support ???

Half sisters anyway. I wonder if Rick would send us photos of the three breeders for a comparison ???

electricbluescat Nov 18, 2003 11:49 PM

half sisters what about that. this is the first time that I have a cali king that I know is related to someone elses cali king. he may email you the breeders pics if you ask him.
i want to take pics as sidney grows so her half sister can see how shes doing every once in a while if he does email you the pics post them on the forum or email me.

Wow, those prarie kings look alot like eastern milks..........I had a W/C baby eastern milk that had the same coloration and similar pattern, only it had the characteristic "Y" on the head.

I wonder if its coincidence or more that these 2 species are so very similar ?? Any evolutional biologists out there, or just very studious and knowledgable herp breeders with an idea ??

Hotshot Nov 19, 2003 09:04 AM

The thing about the prairie kings here in KY, is they start out looking like this. Most of them turn kind of an overall pewter/gun metal gray overcast with the pattern barely visible.

The babies have kind of the same coloration as an adult eastern milk, but the baby eastern milks are cream/white color with red saddles and turn the earthy browns as they age. We even have red milk X Eastern milk natural intergrades here in KY. They are pretty cool.

If you want to see what they look like, go to the photo gallery and under milks, do a search for philpeak and you can see the stuff he has photographed here in KY. He has by far the most interesting field shots that I have seen yet for KY.
