Tiny white WORMS in my tank.

alebron Nov 16, 2003 05:46 PM

I own 2 baby RES. I never seen any thing like this before. These little worms are on the glass pane and are moving around. What are these things?
Are they parisites? How to rid them of the tank?
I'm cleaning the tank tomorrow. Also the RES don't seem to be effected by this yet. Tonight I'm going to use my microsope to inspect them closely.

That doesn't sound good, whatever it is. You really should clean the tank ASAP. I think I'd pull the turtles out, rinse them off very well, and clean the tank thoroughly and a 100% water change.

Small amounts of salt in the tank will not hurt the res, but may help to kill any sort of parasites like this.

Whatever you do, don't stop with just my advice. Look further into this, as it could be some parasite that has make home inside your turtle as a host, and the small worms are ejected in the feces.

I just went thru the same ordeal. Did u feed yer RES guppies or any live food? If so it might be tapeworms or some other parasite.

Find a vet, do a fecal exam, and take a water sample in with you. If you've never had them dewormed before they could have been inside them the whole time. Turtles take forever to show signs of infection and illness.

They are not parasited and are harmless. The can come in on feeder fish or be in the gravel and on the turtles etc. Wipe them off the glass and keep doing water changes. If you strip clean everything and boil the gravel you an kill off alot of it but the problem is that if the turtles have any on them they will repopulate the tank again eventually. But they will not harm you turtle. Just unsightly stuff. You may want to try keeping a plecostomus catfish in you tank or even an algae eater (they are pretty fast so the turtles might have a hard time catching them as opposed to a plecocostomus) They will keep you tank walls free of these unsightly worms (just be mindful that the they don't harrass the turtles and that the turtles might make a meal of them.)
